Design, Finance, Construction, Operation, and Maintenance including Post-Closure Maintenance of, A Common Hazardous Waste treatment, Storage And Disposal Facility (CHWTSDF), At Kochi, Kerala
UPL- EEL & BEIL along with its parent company United Phosphorus Limited have formed SPV viz., Kerala Enviro infrastructure Ltd., for the execution of the SWM project in the southern region of the India.
The project is awarded by Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), A ‘Nodal Agency’ for the development of Common Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility at Ambalamugal, Kochi, Kerala. Government of Kerala has appointed Bharuch Enviro Infrastructure Limited for design, finance, construction, operation & maintenance including the post closure maintenance of A Common Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal facility at (CHWTSDF) at Kochi with a capacity of approx 10,00,000 MT for 20 years using Double liner system.
Total site area at Ambalamugal is admeasuring approximately 50 acres located 15 kms away from the city. The hazardous wastes from 182 companies from different districts are taken out into the landfill site. From this, Ernakulam and Kollam are the major districts of hazardous waste generation cities.
Major construction, development & operation activities consist of Establishment of the facility, including storage shed for hazardous wastes, receiving and transportation of hazardous waste, Inspection of hazardous waste , Carrying out Segregation, Recovery, Treatment, Storage and Disposal of hazardous waste residues including Incineration, Monitoring on-site including emergency preparedness, Reporting to regulatory authorities as needed, Public information/Display of information , Undertaking closure and post closure measures upon exhaustion of the site Capacity, Leachate management including collection, treatment and disposal of leachate using appropriate technology and Closure and post closure maintenance.
